The Bulgarian foreign minister Ekaterina Zaharieva met with the Romanian ambassador in Sofia Brânduşa Predescu
This text is based on a press release by the Bulgarian ministry of foreign affairs, sent out to media on 14 April 2021.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Romania to Bulgaria Brânduşa Predescu, with whom they discussed cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative. The two interlocutors agreed that Bulgaria and Romania should work actively to attract foreign investors to the region.
”Together we must convince businesses that our region is good for investment,” Zaharieva said, adding that the business forum planned for the summer under the Bulgarian presidency of the Initiative provides a good opportunity for this.
Among the topics of conversation was the improvement of the connection between our two countries. “Further development of transport links between Bulgaria and Romania across the Danube has always been a priority for our country. The construction of a third bridge over the Danube will have a positive impact not only on the development of trade and economic relations and tourism, but will also contribute to the development of the economy in the region as a whole,” said Ekaterina Zaharieva.
The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that in addition to the common interests and shared values that connect us, Bulgaria and Romania face the same challenges. “I am happy that we share a common vision for the European future of the countries of the Western Balkans, and I am convinced that this will contribute to stability in the region,” said the Bulgarian foreign minister.
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Zaharieva wished success to Brânduşa Predescu, who is the first woman appointed Romanian ambassador to Bulgaria.
“Thank you, Madam Vice Prime Minister @EZaharievaMFA for the warm welcome & very good discussion confirming the common desire to continue developing the enhanced partnership between Romania and Bulgaria as neighbours and partners in the EU and NATO. Thanks also for the dual photo opportunity”, wrote later Excelenta Sa Brânduşa Predescu on Twitter.
